The Department of Housing has approved the official name of the complex: Mundai Dja [mun-dah jah], which means ‘pretty place’ or ‘home’ in the local Gubbi Gubbi language.

This name was selected through engagement with Kabi Kabi members and local traditional owners and will be displayed on a naming plaque at the entrance.

Construction, managed by Murphy Builders, is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by October 2025. The complex will feature indigenous artwork by local artist Nikita Newley, aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and cultural connection for the residents. Additionally, an outdoor communal space has been designed to include a yarning circle, promoting community interaction and harmony.

Kabi Kabi Aboriginal Corporation’s Housing Project at Broadmeadows Rd, Maroochydore, in partnership with Coast2Bay Housing Group and the Queensland Government, aims to deliver social housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the Sunshine Coast.
