$90,000 in 90 days fundraising drive
RISE – Restart In A Safe Environment was a combined initiative of Coast2Bay Housing Group and the Zonta Club of Caloundra.
The RISE project fully funded the building of two short-term accommodation facilities for women and children escaping domestic violence. These are based at the Southern end of the Sunshine Coast. Once families are stable and able to manage their circumstances they are then assisted to transition to community or market housing to re-start their lives.
In addition to the construction and ongoing management of a women’s refuge, Zonta Caloundra supports education strategies and advocates for programs to assist perpetrators to modify their behaviours. Kelly Callaghan from Zonta Caloundra said “the long term welfare of children is of primary importance in seeking to move families to a safer environment”.
The first tenants for the RISE accommodation facility were welcomed in June after the home was opened by Mayor, Mark Jamieson
