At Coast2Bay, we care deeply about the comfort and well-being of our residents. We understand that many people face financial challenges, and we aim to support you in making your home as livable as possible.
Air-conditioning is not currently included in the Social Housing Design Guidelines, and we do not provide it in our housing due to the high cost of installation and ongoing maintenance. Our new housing includes:
– Large windows that open
– Shaded balconies
– Good airflow between rooms
– Sun-blocking features
These design choices help reduce heat and improve comfort without the need for air-conditioning.
🛠️ Can I install my own air-conditioning?
We know that every household is different. If you’re a long-term tenant, you may request to install air-conditioning at your own expense. We consider each request individually and look at:
– Your ability to pay for installation, electricity, and maintenance
– Whether the system can be placed out of sight from shared or public areas
– Whether the installation meets building approvals and design rules
– Whether the building’s electrical system can support it
Please note: We do not approve air-conditioning for boarding houses, rooming accommodation, crisis housing, or other short- to medium-term housing programs.
✅ What Happens If Your Request Is Approved
If your request is approved:
– The system must be installed by a qualified electrician
– You must provide a quote before work begins
– Coast2Bay must approve the quote and work plan
– You must maintain the system with regular cleaning and checks
– When your tenancy ends, you must remove the system and return the unit to its original condition
