Coast2Bay’s latest development in Aura was completed in December. Funded by the Queensland Government, these 24 new units will help transform lives by providing those in need an affordable, safe and secure place to live. Our new tenants moved into their homes before Christmas.
Murphy Builders managed the design and construction of the development with Hollindale Mainwaring Architecture providing their expertise. The result – a complex that is now home to local residents including seniors, women 55+ and those living with disability.
One tenant provided this heartfelt feedback after they had moved in: “[The complex] has been designed and constructed to a high standard. This not only provides people in need with affordable housing but additionally, with the standard of design and a modern new home, gives the residents dignity and therefore providing the residents with an opportunity for a more successful future.
Most of the residents moved in at the same time; we were all exhausted from moving, yet extremely grateful to be saved from homelessness or on the cusp of homelessness in our disadvantaged circumstances.
The residents I have met so far have been really friendly, kind and considerate. There have been several instances where we would help each other out, from helping to move small furniture, cleaning the outside of the bins, watering and planting herbs in our communal garden, to general positive conversations. There seems to be a community spirit naturally occurring. Congratulations to Coast2Bay, what a successful project and beginning to this housing development.”
These are the moments when the hard work and dedication of many individuals, organisations and supporters is realised. We thank everyone involved in the project. The Community Development and Housing Services team will continue to support the new residents ensuring they settle in to their new community and have the opportunity to thrive.
