Coast2Bay Advocating for Housing Issues in the Federal Election Campaign
Coast2Bay Housing Group has invited candidates in the Federal Election campaign to meet and discuss the need for more community and affordable housing for rent across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions.
Coast2Bay Housing Group Chief Executive Officer Andrew Elvin said
“We have been advocating for policy reforms and changes in community and affordable housing during the Federal election campaign. I have met with a number of candidates from both main political parties to ensure that the needs of our region are fully understood “
The organisation has supported the national Vote Home campaign that seeks reforms that
- Secure greater Government investment in more community and affordable housing,
- Develop a better national homelessness strategy,
- Introduce more effective tax incentives that will better target investment in rental housing,
- Increase the Commonwealth Rent Assessment and
- Address the shortfall in appropriate housing options for those living with a disability.
Andrew said “I have gained a commitment from most candidates to pursue these issues if elected. This is very good news. I am hopeful that the next Federal parliament will take these issues forward with some urgency for the communities across Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions”.
