Promoting connection through art

Mural at Munah Gillah by David Houghton

At Coast2Bay Housing we’re always looking for ways we can help our tenants connect to their homes and local community. One way we facilitate this is through shared common spaces, such as vege gardens, outdoor seating areas and community rooms.  In some of our recent developments we have had the opportunity to integrate artworks into these common areas.

Local artist David Houghton has just completed his second stunning mural for Coast2Bay at our Yandina complex, Munah Gillah. David was chosen as the artist for this project as his style and use of nature in his art was considered complementary to Yandina’s country feel and the lovely native vegetation and wildlife around the complex.

David drew inspiration for his designs through consultation with the residents of Munah Gillah – their thoughts, feelings and experiences living in their new homes.  The natural beauty of the area and the wildlife residents see as special feature in the piece. Yandina has easy access to the ocean to the East, with the ocean depicted to the east of the mural. It’s also nestled at the base of the hinterland with Wappa Falls, just down the road to the West, also represented.

The residents celebrated the completion of the mural with David over some delicious woodfired pizzas! We have more artwork planned at future sites and will share with you when these are complete.
